ultimately a sad film depicting the erosion of the lives and culture of the Guarani-KaiowÃ both through the actions of wealthy "land-owners" but also through a growing awareness of the teenage children wanting to explore Western culture.

A powerful shamanic journey weaves through both the geographical realism of Brazil & the gradual stoic resistance of an indigneous people as they make a stand for their ancestral land. Italo-Chilean directorMarco Bechis worked for five years on this film with the Guaranis who in turn became the cast. Unmissable.

Makes its point very effectively in the first 10 minutes and has subsequent difficulties convincing as a full-length narrative feature; a documentary treatment could have been more illuminating.
