Would have been good but as usual the loving husband father (male) is expendable. Who cares as long as the mother even though the one using the boy gets to stay alive. Every horror movie just about the male role is killed off. F Hollywood. Anyway the movie was surprisingly good but making a feel good movie but giving no way out for the good father draws you back to 3 stars.

"Before I wake" is nice and may not meant to be classified as an "horror" movie. Thanks to really great visuals and a strong direction, the movie is good, but it has to deal with some weirdly writted scenes and an absolutely uncharismatic first actor (Kate Bosworth).

The movie nearly collapses beneath the weight of its heavy handed metaphors, that said I do like how what could easily be a conventional horror narrative is undermined in some interesting ways.

If you're a fan of jump scares, give this one a shot. It got me quite a few times (ie frightened & made the hairs on my arms stand up). You have to be willing to buy into the premise, else you'll be disappointed, as most other reviewers were.
