One of the better "Devil" movies and one of the John Carpenters that few ever talk about anymore. This movie is perhaps one of John Carpenter's scariest films to date, it proves why John Carpenter is one of true masters of horror. An atmospheric portrayal of inescapable and impending doom of the most evil kind. Not to mention that the soundtrack is outstanding, but every Carpenter film has an oustanding soundtrack to it.

Fantastic atmosphere and plenty of excellent special effects make this film shine. It has some shortcomings (such as a few stilted performances), but it's a criminally underrated outing from Carpenter.

While most belive that it is not great as a whole film, I belive that this is easily Carpenter's scarriest flick. Had regular nightmare for years till I got the DVD of this film and watched it enough to "face my fears" successfully. Ok acting, great direction, and good ideas which predate films like ANGELS AND DEMONS. Even more interesting is that unlike a good majority of films, this film shows religion and science working togeather to defeat evil - something pretty rare. Especialy with this film having a more Bible-based antagonist (unlike POLTERGEIST). Defiently underrated.
