One of the best Lovecraft adaptations ever.

I saw this before I started reading anything by Lovecraft, but even then I found it very enjoyable, and it got me to look into it's sources and start reading Lovecraft. Named after the short story by Lovecraft, but mostly based on his longer story of "The Shadow over Innsmouth", it is thoroughly creepy and not of the typical horror style. Also, the ending and much of the movie was much different from the norm. I was very impressed after having seem it on the Sci-Fi channel.

Somewhat awkward acting for the story to go on, a little hard to understand, and completely disinteresting by the end of the movie

You want atmopshere? It has a name: DAGON. This bad ass little flick involves a couple on vacation who, after a boating accident, are forced into the rainy Spanish town of Imboca. The problem? Imboca is populated by fish people, and they worshipped a pissed off fish god named Dagon. While the film boils down to chase after chase, there's no denying it: the fish people are CREEPY AS FUCK, the film is exquisitely shot, and there are some nasty gore pieces like a man being skinned alive from the his head. I didn't toally dig the ending, but it worked. Also, props to the casting people: the lead fish "princess" is played by this creepy, weird assed looking girl who just fits the role like a glove in hand.

This was excellent. It is very hard to come close to Lovecraft's terrirfying vision. Stuart Gordon has done a fantastic job. He should do all of Lovecraft's work. This film is based from the tale "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". For the longest time the face on the cover intrigued me...I thought it was absolutely horrific! In Lovecraft's work one thing is always true: there is no escape. No light at the end of the tunnel. No nothing...just you, and the gods, or some unimaginable creatures...
