Dagon (2001)

A boating accident off the coast of Spain sends Paul and his girlfriend Barbara to the decrepit fishing village of Imboca. As night falls, people start to disappear and things not quite human start to appear. Paul is pursued by the entire town. Running for his life, he uncovers Imboca's secret..they worship Dagon, a monstrous god of the sea...and Dagon's unholy offspring are on the loose...

This is a great HP Lovecraft adaptation done by film director Stuart Gordon.Very twisted plot concerning fishmen and and Dagon cult who summon the fish god Dagon! worth seeing if you are into the Fantasy/Horror novels by Lovecraft>.

Somehow Gordon captures his signature cheese, while providing a truly suspenseful, atmospheric, and sometimes brutal entry to his film career. As a hardcore Lovecraft fan, I also found this to be one of the best adaptations of his work. Some might complain that it lacks the humorous elements of Gordon's Reanimator, but I prefer a faithful adaptation with existential terror to a loose adaptation filled with comedic gore porn.

Dagon isn't as outright funny as Gordon's Re-Animator or From Beyond, but it has moments of spunkiness to puncture the incredible strangeness of it all.
