Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (2012)

The first Cylon war has been raging for 10 years and a young Ensign William Adama joins the fleet. Disappointed not to be assigned to a fighter but to a freighter, his co-pilot also isn't too keen on having a rookie flying his aircraft as he has only a short time before he again becomes a civilian. Their cargo is a civilian scientist, but they no sooner leave than she has new orders for them and a new destination. Although she's less than forthcoming about the details, Adama is keen—particularly as it involves going into Cylon controlled space. However, nothing is as it seems.

The latest offering in the Battlestar Galactica saga is a William Adama origin story that tells of his first mission flying as a pilot for the colonial fleet. The reason the reboot of Battlestar Galactica worked so well was because of its adult themes, sophisticated characterisation and involving story arcs, performed by a cast of very talented actors. What we have in Blood & Chrome is none of these things. It's essentially a rather amateurish version of Top Gun in space featuring Luke Pasqualino (who is more Wesley Crusher than William Adama) earnestly "doing the right thing" in front of an unconvincing green screen. Even the cylons don't look like cylons, instead resembling a cross between a terminator and a transformer. I can only assume that this substandard, humourless clone of a mediocre episode of Stargate SG-1 was intended to hook a younger (and stupider) audience than the original series because aside from some of the spaceships, it has nothing at all in common with it.

This is a good take on the battle star program's I think this was a grate try at this and my hat goes of to the cast and crew as this was made as a web series and a lot of the revues don't reflect that

Strictly for Battlestar purists, this prequel was originally released in a series of 10 minutes segments with cliffhangers online.

More than anything, this series, telling the story of William Adama's early military career, just made me miss the Ronald D. Moore series. The dradis sound effects were actually my favorite part of this film. Some of the space battles were decent, but compared to the original series this spin off of the rebooted BSG is completely light on character development and story. It's all noise and action, but no real ideas or thoughts behind them. Disappointing.

CGI from end to end with far to little depth to be worthy of the the recent Battlestar series. If I had it to do over, I could have willingly messed it.
