A very funny little indie comedy. Using the surroundings of South Florida,in the heavy elder Jewish community, a teen tries to find that perfect date to the high school prom after learning the infamous nerd Bart got a date AND a room. His quest leads him with the not so much help from his divorced parents, his lazy best friend, and a girl he's been friends with all his life. You'd think at first that you know exactly how the movie will end, but it takes a different approach in this familiar setting. The movie is very relatable, and I like it when the audience can relate perfectly well with its on screen characters. At times, the movie will fall a bit flat in certain areas, but in the areas it has it's strengths (like every William H. Macy scene there is), the movie is worth the viewing. Plus, I just love how the old Jewish community sterotypes are captured in this movie, PERFECT in my oppinion.

It's a lot more subtle than most teen movies with a lot more message. I was nostalgic for my Florida days since it was done in the typical Florida suburb. Underneath a superficial theme of teens getting ready for the prom, the movie dives into dating later in life, as his parents are, and finding that sense of connection, as they all are. Also great cast, but you won't like it if you're expecting "American Pie".

In my fourth year at the TJFF, I wanted to be entertained this year. This movie did just that. It made me laugh. Not only was the puns and quirkiness about this Jewish teenager attending his prom laugh out loud, but also the setting where the movie was filmed: Boca Ratan, Florida. Picture senior citizen, flamingo type birds and cadillacs. William H. Macy was hilarious and played the perfect Jewish, divorced Husband/Father. His jewfro was definitely unmissable and was a character on its own. A great movie pick once again!

Fairly funny, but typical "nerdy guy can't find a date" comedy. But it gets bonus points for starring William H. Macy and Alia Shawkat.

Brandon Hardesty, one of my favorite youtubers, had a great character in this movie, so did William H. Macy. Otherwise, however, it was a pretty bland and uninteresting affair.
