Band of Angels (1957)

Living in Kentucky prior to the Civil War, Amantha Starr is a privileged young woman. Her widowed father, a wealthy plantation owner, dotes on her and sends her to the best schools. When he dies suddenly Amantha's world is turned upside down. She learns that her father had been living on borrowed money and that her mother was actually a slave and her father's mistress.

this movie had a hollywood/non hollywood ending and i don't want to give it away. it was better than most civil war movies of that era, which were usually slanted to sympathize with the traitors to the u.s.a. this one leaned a little that way when they showed union troops hanging plantation owners, which was diametrically opposite general grant's orders. i liked this movie.

Very well produced, but it seems it was trying to be another Gone With the Wind, and that it is not. Fine cast, great sets and costumes.

good stuff ALL STAR CAST BUT WAS A LITTLE SURPRIZED 2 SEE POITIER PLAYING A SLAVE BECAUSE HE WAS CAREFUL NOT TO TAKE ROLES LIKE THIS ONE BUT HEY EVERYBODY HAS TO EAT!
