Manderlay (2005)

In 1933, a young woman and her father discover an Alabama plantation whose inhabitants live as if slavery had never been abolished. Feeling a sense of duty to those behind the heavy gates, she stays to liberate the people and see them through their first harvest. With four of her father's colleagues and a lawyer, she faces the daunting task of resurrecting the place known as Manderlay.

I heart Lars von Trier. Despite being a tad long, he still delivers one of the most orginal, though-provoking movies which subjec still resonates today: from slavery to the Iraq war. Wonderfully written and superbly directed, this film should be been recoginzed by someone in the awards circuit. A wonderful sequel to Dogville, I just can't wait to see what else Grace get herself involved with next.

A worthy followup to Dogville, which is in my opinion one of the most amazing films ever made. Manderlay is challenging, and will get you out of the box and thinking.

A compelling story, told with no frills, honest and rawness. I loved the way it was filmed, no walls, in a studio, it beats having to watch split screen to follow more than one story. It is incredibly involved and thought provoking if only to keep up with the rights and wrongs. This film has character development all over it, family, treachery, love, betrayal and an invaluable message to be learnt, or two. Loved it, not to long either.

sequel to dogville - excellent use of stages to help you concentrate on subject matter, subject matter - misguided but interesting.
