A movie that starts with a bang, literally.

Marvelous film with nice cinematography and great performances by the entire cast. A must see film for all Bette Davis fans and classic movie lovers.

Entertaining melodrama which sees the great Bette Davis reunite with director William Wyler in a film that stands out from her back catalogue as being darker and more intense than her more typical offerings. Nominated for 7 Oscars the film is well-crafted and an immensely classy affair, featuring a number of solid performances and an intriguing plot that allows Davis to play up her sultriness to great effect. By all means worth seeking out.

Both Wyler and his star, Bette Davis, were well ahead of their time. This film is a strong reminder of that. While the film adheres to the general melodramatic approach of most movies of its day -- there is particularly complex performance from Davis. And, Wyler's film fully utilizes the rare skill of his cinematographer, Tony Gaudio, to create a surprisingly unsettling movie.

Well crafted script. Strong performances under Wyler's direction.
