The character Harvey plays in Bad Lieutenant is loosly based on my life. Obviously Im not a drug crazed, perverted cop but apart from that its exactly the same. Watch this kids and toughen up! life is grim!

A lot of people seem to think this film is anti catholic/Christian but the whole movie actually deals with forgiveness. Harvey Keitel plays an excellent part as a dysfunctional police officer who through out movie abuses every drug and women put in front of him until he has to investigate the rape of a nun. The nun forgives the two boys and chooses not to give up there names and chooses to focus on there good ,this forces the lieutenant to face his own demons .

Amazing. Harvey Keitel solidifies his position as one of the greatest, most versatile, most dedicated actors of his day. Like if Johnny from "Naked" was a cop in New York. I love films like this, films where on character just tears and burns through life while the viewer clings desperately, terrified of falling off and becoming just another charred corpse in it's wake. Fearless, honest, brutal and beautiful. A film of incredible power. This film will stay with you.

Another incredible performance by Keitel. The NC-17 version will scar your brain. Not for children (or young adults for that matter). A disturbing movie but ultimately very uplifting in a way.

Harvey Keitel plays a police lieutenant and saying he is "bad" is an understatement. He's not only a corrupt cop, but a corrupt human being in general. And those of you who missed the "deep" part of it, remember the character is a Catholic and suicide is a sin. Now, go watch it again.
