Aragami (2003)

Two seriously wounded samurai find refuge from a storm at an isolated temple, the home of a swordsman and a mysterious young woman. One samurai awakes to find that not only has his comrade died, but that his wounds have miraculously healed. He discovers that he has been given the power of immortality by the swordsman, a man once known as the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, who now lives an endless existence as Aragami, a "god of battle".

A very cool samurai swordplay fantasy that's surprisingly heady. A perfect blend of meditation and action.

This is truly an epic movie, but the best part about it is the Paul Gilbert song at the end, which fits the movie perfectly. The whole movie is absolutely beautiful in terms of cinematography. And the fact that such an epic movie was shot in only a week is quite amazing.

Two directors each create a feature length movie with only two actors, battling in one setting and filmed entirely in one week. This was called The Duel Project. One of the two films, Aragami, is a Samurai Vs God Of Battle story set in a remote temple in the mountains. From the director of Versus comes even more sophisticated swordplay, tighter pacing and better script than previous works. Even tho the film is mostly a drama, there are some very funny moments. One of the things that makes Aragami so entertaining is its simplicity. I still can't decide which takes the prize between this and 2LDK.
