American Violet (2008)

A young single mother of four living in a small Texas town. Arrested during a drug raid and accused of a crime she didn't commit, Dee goes against the wishes of her mother, Alma, and rejects the plea-bargain that would free her from jail, but brand her as a felon for life. As word begins to spread that similar incidents are occurring in poor communities all across the country, Dee realizes that there are more mothers out there like her, and decides to take a stand against powerful district attorney Calvin Beckett. Now, despite being well aware of District Attorney Beckett's fierce reputation, Dee enlists the aid of ACLU attorney David Cohen and former narcotics officer Sam Conroy in overcoming the seemingly insurmountable obstacles that, if not navigated with the greatest of caution, now threaten to destroy her life. With the custody of her children on the line, one brave mother wages a valiant battle to strike at the very heart of the corrupt Texas justice system.

Sooo, if your an Activist like me, this flick is an absolute must see... The incredibly horrific reality is this is a true and even sadder story of recent years and the absolute audacity and failure of a people in a community to do the right thing, like remove our protaganist from public office. Our heroin goes against all odds and she is so young and her story is one that is shamefully common in our country and yet, she takes on the political system admirably with great courage for a single mother. All performances are stellar, it is not one that will receive an Oscar; however, it will when your heart and sublimely asks you to ask yourself, when is enough, enough!!! Worth every cent...

Strong performances and pacing keep the viewer engaged to the story through the entire film. The actors have all contributed something that makes it a very real experience.

An awesome film showing what happens in America to vulnerable people when the system that is supposed to protect goes bad. Tim Ware does an excellent job of stirring your emotions and grips you to the end.
