Fantastic serious film.. reflects some measure of the reality of politics-- a good man brainwashed by crooked elements that eventually corrupted him

It was a great movie for what it's discussing--politics and corruption in politics. if u see the dvd with special features, one of the actors said it best (paraphrasing): "there are paralells from the time the movie took place and now... the problems (in politics) are the same". that's what I kept on thinking throughout the movie & "some things have changed, but we're still going thru c****" Sean Penn, out of all the all star cast impressed me since I have been following his acting career more than any one else's in the movie except for Hopkins who is friggin' awesome (Hannibal movies and Amistad, etc). I have been catching up with his work these past 3 yrs (thanks to my public library's extensive collection of his movies), and Penn does a great job in this movie for what the plot is. A political movie could be done better than this for sure, but this isn't the worse that could have been done. I bought this movie as part of my Penn and Hopkins collection :-)

A very abrupt ending. It's inspiration and presents an idea to those poor and unfortunate, and accusing the truly corrupted. Watch it.

Story of a political destiny which is totting between principles and failings, according how the system works. Some lengths, mostly at the beginning due to the (too good?) script and its sparkling conversations. Happily it's accelerated after and the movie, helped by a brilliant cast, Penn in their head - all in nervous tics -, ends with some issues about politics and politicians which keeps being so actual.
