Sean Penn...nuff said best actor in Hollywood right now.

A passionate rendering of a politicians zeal and desire. Full of excellent talent and a wonderful setting. Sean Penn is now miles away from Jeff Spicoli as far as his acting is concerned, and Patricia Clarkson is now the darling of period dramas.

It was a great movie for what it's discussing--politics and corruption in politics. if u see the dvd with special features, one of the actors said it best (paraphrasing): "there are paralells from the time the movie took place and now... the problems (in politics) are the same". that's what I kept on thinking throughout the movie & "some things have changed, but we're still going thru c****" Sean Penn, out of all the all star cast impressed me since I have been following his acting career more than any one else's in the movie except for Hopkins who is friggin' awesome (Hannibal movies and Amistad, etc). I have been catching up with his work these past 3 yrs (thanks to my public library's extensive collection of his movies), and Penn does a great job in this movie for what the plot is. A political movie could be done better than this for sure, but this isn't the worse that could have been done. I bought this movie as part of my Penn and Hopkins collection :-)

Very powerfull politic film... (on words, not actions) and yet unknown and misjudged! Extreme performance from Sean Penn.

Cinematography - outstanding ; love the DI. Story - Love the political drama. Acting - Sean Penn in one of the most outstanding performances. Direction - i would have prefered handheld. How far can idealism survive ? Ends justify means? 'Nail 'em up , Nail 'em up'
