Against All Odds (1984)

Having been cut from his professional football team, down-and-out athlete Terry Brogan is in desperate need of money. Crooked nightclub owner and bookie Jake Wise offers Terry a hefty sum to go to Mexico and find his girlfriend, Jessie Wyler. Terry cannot turn the offer down. When Terry locates Jessie, the two fall in love. Terry reports that he failed to find her, but Jake sends someone else. Terry and Jessie's love must endure unexpected twists.

Great movie. Rachel Ward was hot, the plot provided suspense and James Woods is always sleazy as a bad guy.

Too much of the 80's formula makes it look dated. The love story was not convincing. Jeff Bridges is hot though.

Exceptional triller with romantic intent. From the mainstream jock needs a job plot, but in this case he's already an injured pro, knocked out the lawyer, sidesteped a ex+team mate's job offer, and fallen for a L.A. high profile escapee in meh-hic-co. Not bad performances from the affor mentioned characters and noted one hotted up jeff bridges, body to burn in a steemy remote island love shack up with rachel ward. Directed well and bound for the small screen I'm sure, for its day a modern passing the time masterpiece of intreauge and the American way. A bit dull in places, though strung togeather well. Watchable ...um thriller I guess. And yes a great sound track hit by phill collins.

the only reason I gave this insipid film 3 stars is because they effectively captured the beauty and mysteriousness of the Yucatan Peninsula.
