Great buddy film and quite a change from Sinatra's normal movie.

It's surprising what you can do with a steam train and a few veteran actors, rather entertaining for an old WWII flick. The movie does seem to end rather abruptly though. For all the talk of good special effects though, there seems to be very little actual...blood. In such a massive gun fight at the end, you would expect at least a touch, even in family friendly tale. Perhaps though that is my modern self thoroughly desensitised to voilence?

A decent enough premise, although there are shades of bridge on the river kwai in the opening half an hour, that blossoms into a really rather good war movie. The cast all lend weight to the story, sinatra plays it cool as Col. Ryan, and the movies climax is both tense and exciting. If you're a fan of war movies, then this is definatley something for you.

A great 2 hours of old fashioned action/war movie fluff. It's not quite up there with the classics, but its infinitely more entertaining than most action movies made these days.
