Taking some cues from American Splendor, a fun little movie with a killer cast and a wildly postmodern sensibility. Doesn't avoid all the pitfalls of the biopic, but worth a watch, especially for the early bits that take place at the Lampoon.

However fitting that a film about a man at existential odds with himself is itself at odds with its essential components, "A Futile and Stupid Gesture" could still have benefited from a bit more punch-up.

Not all creative people have problems, but it seems that they all get caught up at some time or another, with problems due to too much time and money. An interesting story in the life of one of the founders of National Lampoon Magazine.

I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did, but it was extremely entertaining and educational in filling in the blanks regarding the origins of National Lampoon. Sad ending, but still a poignant story. Definitely take the time to see it.
