Five different directors adapt the works of Japanese author Otsuichi in this collection of unconventional live-action and animated shorts. A woman is murdered under odd circumstances in the title film, "Zoo"; twin sisters are treated differently in "Kazari and Yoko"; two siblings find themselves trapped in "Seven Rooms"; a survivor learns about life and death in "When the Sun Shines"; and parents lose the ability to see each other in "So Far.

This is a pretty damn good documentary. Considering what it's about, I'd say the director did a good job not sensationalizing the story any more than it inherently is. Good balanced story but, truthfully, while one side presents "zoo" as a lifestyle choice and the other presents it as a vile perversion, I wouldn't have minded seeing some psychiatrists talking about this . . . phenomenon.

A well put together film; more dramatization than document. It touches the depths of the fetish of this group without subjecting the audience to the experience of their pleasures. Still, it is not a film for people who do not want to acknowledge the realms of some people's experience of this world. It is, however, a great exploration of the thin line, psychologically, between the love of horses and attraction to their dominance.

the dramatic reenacments get a little out of hand near the end, but the audio documentary really grounds the entire experience. enthralling work that asks a lot of questions but answers a lot too... i dint really expect the guy on the stool, thought it was a bit pointless (comparing a dying child on mother's day to a zoophile bleeding to death)

I've seen tons of documentaries and this one definitely had the strangest, most unique subject matter. Some people are perhaps disturbed or annoyed by the incessant, never-ending haunting music, but the movie would probably feel too silent without it. I thought the "victim" was neither vilified yet nor was his behavior condoned or justified. A horse rescuer gives her scoop and feelings on the situation, and in the aftermath of the, uh, incident, Washington criminalized bestiality. About ~75 mins run time (despite what it says above), but feels like much longer.
