This was a fascinating film for the way it allows the story to be told. The subject is pretty extreme, but they dance around the actual subject matter for a long time before they really get to what this movie is really about. It was very beautifully shot, but I couldn't help but come away from this thinking that it was the ultimate worst first date movie ever. If you don't know why... well, why not rent it for a first date and find out for yourself.

Director Robinson Devor makes an only mildly disgusting film about a wholly revolting subject.

This is a pretty damn good documentary. Considering what it's about, I'd say the director did a good job not sensationalizing the story any more than it inherently is. Good balanced story but, truthfully, while one side presents "zoo" as a lifestyle choice and the other presents it as a vile perversion, I wouldn't have minded seeing some psychiatrists talking about this . . . phenomenon.

Underrated as a poetic, inventive documentary. Uses vocal recording of the real men (who could/would not appear on camera) with exquisitely photographed, lyrical gestures of reenactment. Doesn't sensationalize, but gently aestheticizes.

Norm Schrager 21 Sep 2007

a bizarre, moody entry that's part documentary, part drama.
