The opening is well confusing and the rest of the story is more about his parents than him. The actor does a really good job though, especially with the voice.

A fairly good film version of Churchill's younger years. The sequences in the Sudan and South Africa are particularly fine, and some good performances. Ward actually looking and acting like a young Churchill helps also.

Good biopic on the child- and young adult-hood of Winston Churchill. Covers his school years, army years (incl the Battle of Omdurman), Boer War escapades and his initial election to Parliament. Very interesting - he was certainly driven and lived an eventful life! Also shows the influence of his father and mother. Solid direction by Richard Attenborough, directing his second movie (third was to be A Bridge Too Far, five years later). Good performances from Simon Ward and Anne Bancroft. Also features an early-career Anthony Hopkins as David Lloyd George.
