Wrestling Ernest Hemingway (1993)

Frank, a retired Irish seaman, and Walter, a retired Cuban barber, are two lonely old men trapped in the emptiness of their own lives. When they meet in a park Frank is able to start a conversation after several attempts. They begin to spend time together and become friends. But because of their different characters they often quarrel with each other and finally seperate after Frank misbehaves to Walter's friend Elaine.

The movie is essentially about the close observation of behavior. Like some of Hemingway's stories, the real action is all implied. The characters trade small talk, and we sense that larger issues are lurking beneath their cheerfulness.

Duvall og Harris er overlegne i dette dramaet. Det er ikke til aa tro. Filmen er saa roerende og herlig at man forsvinner helt inn i den.

Guy movie for sure. What do old men do when they're lonely? They find other old men who are lonely and pick on them.

OK, I don't know a lot of Cubans. And maybe Robert Duvall as a Cuban in this movie was a bad idea....but he was just so damn sweet! And Richard Harris gives one of his best roles in an awesome career. This is quite possibly the best character driven film I've ever seen.

AWESOME FILM!!! Look at this cast: Robert Duvall, Richard Harris, Shirley MacLain, Sandra Bullock. . . . this movie is just too good to be true - top notch story, acting, and soundtrack, and you'll never forget these performances.
