Kit Madden is traveling to Hollywood, where her best-selling novel is to be filmed. Aboard the train, she encounters Marines Rusty and Dink, who don't know she is the author of the famous book, and who don't think much of the ideas it proposes. She and Rusty are greatly attracted, but she doesn't know how to deal with his disdain for the book's author.

Without Reservations is an entertaining film. It is about Kit Madden who is traveling to Hollywood, where her best-selling novel is to be filmed. John Wayne and Claudette Colbert give excellent performances. The screenplay is well written. Mervyn LeRoy did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama, humor, and romance. Without Reservations is a must see.

For a change. John Wayne made a lighter comedy, and some of his scenes with Claudette Colbert are fun to watch.

With hindsight, it's clear to see John Wayne's tough guy acts throughout the latter part of his career were much more suited to him than playing a leading romantic man as he does here. The comedy element of the farcical trip to the west coast is the strongest part of this film.
