When an old friend brings filmmaker Enrique Goded a semi-autobiographical script chronicling their adolescence, Enrique is forced to relive his youth spent at a Catholic boarding school. Weaving through past and present, the script follows a transvestite performer who reconnects with a grade school sweetheart. Spurred on by this chance encounter, the character reflects on her childhood sexual victimization and the trauma of closeting her sexual orientation.

Excellent film and probably Almodavar's best film to date. It is a multi layered plot which leaves you asking questions and asks difficult questions of the audience. Well acted by a superb cast and wonderfully directed by someone with an eye for the visual impact of cinema as well as a knowledge of how to get an audience thinking.

When it comes to evocative, alternative cinema, it seems that Pedro Almodovar can do no wrong and this psychosexual, semi-autobiographical drama is yet another proof-piece. The meandering screenplay and inventive editing make for a compelling mystery with both style and substance; pulling viewers through a portal into a world of arresting relationships and scorching secrets. In the wrong hands, Bad Education could've been the stuff of exploitation horror or heavy-handed thriller, yet Almodovar's tasteful treatment of taboo and precarious passion for storytelling ensure his work is every inch a masterpiece. Utterly unmissable.

Another great film by Almodovar and strangely was better on it's 2nd viewing for me. Not for everyone but again thoughtfully & beautifully directed (as always). Gael GarcÃa Bernal is brilliant and the story intertwines perfectly. It's a wonderful homage to classic Hitchcock thrillers!
