Jeff Bridges revels in his role as the infamous Wild Bill Hikock. This film shows Bridges in all his glory, playing the role superbly and always captivating his audiene while on screen. With supporting cast of Ellen Barkin and John Hurt its well worth a look. Walter Hill has come a long way since his western The long Riders, and this '95 classic is truly a marvel of a western. Its only failing is young David Arquette, not sure his abilities are up to par with the other titans of the silver screen such as Bridges, Barkin and Hurt. Its a wonderful piece of cinema, well written, well directed, well acted and well worth a look

Both as a modern Western and as a Hill movie, this is efficient but middling - which still, finally, means that it's worth catching.

This is a valiant but overcomplicated Western that aims to redraw the lines on Western mythology: with heroes as mere humans, and heroics as distortions of the truth.

With “Geronimo,” an honorable effort to right some wrongs done the Apache warrior in past movies, [Hill] seemed stifled by his commitment to history. And in “Wild Bill,” which he wants us to see as a psychological profile of a legend’s final days, he can’t for the life of him let go of the legend.

It was alright, but all the trippy flashbacks really take you out of the movie because of the horrible camera effects. It just seems a little too disjointed.
