Samuel Fuller's throat-grabbing exposé on American racism was misunderstood and withheld from release when it was made in the early eighties.Today, the notorious film is lauded for its daring metaphor and gripping pulp filmmaking. Kristy McNichol stars as a young actress who adopts a lost German shepherd, only to discover through a series of horrifying incidents that the dog has been trained to attack black people, and Paul Winfield plays the animal trainer who tries to cure him. It was a little hard to take the movie seriously because of how low-budget/80's it is, but it's alright. The dog was so cuuuuuute!!!

This movie brings up a good point about racism, it cant be unlearned. Can't wait for the remake.

After some rather dodgy Tv-style acting at the start as well as a contrived plot potential rape to prove the worth of the dog, things really kick off with this edge of the seat, absorbing drama/thriller. Poor old Kristy McNichol doesnt quite know what she's let herself in for when she homes a dog she hit with her car and then restores to full health. Her dog has been trained to attack and potentially kill black-skinned people. The re-training of her dog keeps you on your toes throughout and the very thought that this has gone on and probably still does is chilling.

Locked away at the time this is a strong indictment of racism done in a tv-movie kind of way. Low-budget but still strong, there are some incredibly suspenseful moments here and a great soundtrack. The ending is something else too!
