More a nice gentle drama than an outright comedy, Whisky Galore is entertaining enough, but not quite as engaging nor as biting as Ealing's better offerings.

Quality golden oldie of British cinema. One of the first and best films that i can remember seeing when i was 4 or 5yrs old. A funny tale of people from a scottish village on the Hebrides islands disobeying a home guard commander (whom it can be said Captain Mainwaring from Dad's Army was modeled on), and rowing across to a stranded ship to steal its contents of whiskey. Good humoured, gentle comedy with an excellent cast.

Based on the Compton MacKenzie novel Whiskey Galore! is a classic Ealing Comedy that is blessed with fine acting & direction.

The movie actually had me gasping for fear of losing whisky cases off the back of an escaping truck. Now that's what I call a good film. Also, watch for the lovely moral message at the end of the film, you may just enjoy the hilarity of their attempt.
