What Just Happened (2008)

During the course of an ordinary week in Hollywood, movie producer Ben must navigate his way through shark-infested waters as he struggles to complete his latest projects. A demanding studio boss demands extensive changes to a movie starring Sean Penn, while another chief won't greenlight a project unless star Bruce Willis shaves his beard. Meanwhile, Ben tries to reconcile with his wife and maintain a relationship with his young daughter.

Anyone seen THE PLAYER? SWIMMING WITH SHARKS? This like it's somewhere between those 2 movies. So i really want to see it.

People in the industry loved this movie, but they expected the general public response to be so underwhelming that they only limited released it. I don't know why because it has the biggest stars in hilarious roles and is one of the most clever comedies I have seen probably since Thank You For Smoking. Robert DeNiro is brilliant as the constantly crapped on producer, and I have never loved Bruce Willis more than in this movie playing himself as a complete douche. The ending is extremely pathetic which many people will probably hate, but I loved. Of course I also liked the ending where the dog dies too.

"Make a note, a producer with a conscience." This movie gives great insight into the film industry, especially from a producers point of view. Its a black comedy, and it shows just how crazy Hollywood can be, and how much humour can be found in all the drama. Filmmaking can be stressful, and especially if you're working on multiple projects just like De Niro's character. This has a great cast, and Bruce Willis and Sean Penn playing themselves are a real gem in this movie. It has a strong plot, but De Niro as the lead really carries this story and is always so engaging in his roles. There are many amusing moments in this film, with a wide range of characters that compliment this story. People that are not in the film industry, will come out watching this movie with more insight and understanding. A really enjoyable film.

A fun little expose of just exactly is going on in the world of agents, producers, directors and movie studios. Entourage for the older set I guess and a great performance by De Niro. Well worth checking out.
