Williams' performance is remarkable not only for its depth but for its stillness.

The film is exquisitely realized, with a tremendous, naturalistic performance by Michelle Williams at its heart and a pervasive, assuring sense that Reichardt and Raymond have distilled everything nonessential from their story and imparted exactly the impact they wished.

gorgeous and slow, i can't say enough about how quietly deliberate and how real this whole film feels. michelle williams should be receiving an academy award, but will have to do with a nomination for her portrayal of a woman trying to change her luck with a job and ends up at the bottom. there is hope, but it is always shrouded in an ominous darkness and a tense feeling of optimism, that perhaps wendy will find lucy and everything will be alright. we as the audience can feel that unease and kelly reichardt has realized it onto the screen. one of 2008's greatest films.

I haven't had a movie resonate so strongly with me in such a long time. It's simple, intimate, heartbreaking and storytelling at its purest. I can imagine that it can be a little bit divisive because its documentary style is very plodding and its premise seems like such a small conflict, but it is in those moments that Michelle Williams' performance, upon which the whole movie rests, and the film-makers' minimalist style spoke to me. This turned me into a huge fan of Williams. The shots are filled with little details that hide a rich story that left me questioning and letting me fill in that story for myself with my own experiences. There's so much that felt like I could related to in this movie, if you're a pet lover or ever thought of going on an adventure, check it out.
