We Have a Ghost shows plenty of ambition as writer and director Christopher Landon broadens his horizons, but it never feels anything more than a series of disparate parts failing to come together as a satisfying whole.

We Have a Ghost is a mostly bland movie, elevated by a few good performances and an intriguing premise that doesn’t go as far as it seems like it should.

A good surprise! While I don't see this film becoming a cult classic, because it is nothing new, it's still a rather solid "friendly ghost" story. The beginning of the story takes a few shortcuts, but I enjoyed learning more about "Ernest" and how the characters interacted with him. Frankly, I had more fun with this film that I initially expected.

Is it a comedy? Feels like one but there's no laughs. Then you think, this feels too serious for a comedy, then you get the biggest laughs of the film, and then it goes all serious again. Also, how do the kids end up being fugitives by simply running away from a mob? I think the best things in this movie are David harbour and the main kid - both cool and do a good job, let down by a script that doesn't know what it wants to be. As a result you have a very uneven movie.
