Vexille (2007)

2067: Isolation: Japan seals herself off from the eyes of the world in the face of unilateral international policy setting strict limits on the use of robotic technology. The island nation exists only behind a veil of seclusion. No soul shall enter. No soul shall leave. 2077: Revelation: The veil is breached. Japan is infiltrated by agents of the organization S.W.O.R.D., a fighting force operating outside of the protection of the United States and her allies. Their mission: Determine if the Japanese are developing banned robotic bio-technology, forbidden due to its threat to humankind. In the battle between machine and man, humanity stands to suffer most.

Highlander: The Search for Vengence - Not bad, animation is solid, story is pretty convoluted. I found myself losing interest towards the end, but still nice to look at. Vexille - Interesting mix of animation types. Could serve as a spiritual prequel to Appleseed, especially considering how much the leading ladies look alike. The Blood of Heroes - One point awarded to the studio that funded this mess, thinking this rediculous story merited filming. Yikes. Angel-A - I seem to hear a lot of disdain for this film, but I thought it was interesting idea. I was never bored, though the main character did come across as pretty whiny most of the time. Quite an odd film, worth a watch if your in the mood for something, well, odd, and not as terribly deep as it would like you to think it is. A Boy and His Dog - A young Don Johnson wanders the post-apocalyptic wasteland with a telepathic dog that sniffs out poon-tang for his human companion to chase down. So bizarre I had to laugh...way to go Don.

a really good anime movie. not for those offended by strong foul langauge but a great movie none the less. even though the movie is nearly 2 hours long its worth every second. one of the most chilling lines is "they can rob us of our country, take our bodies and our minds, but we're stil human. LETS SHOW THEM THEY CAN'T TAKE OUR PRIDE!"

Quite probably the best Japanese Animated Science Fiction that I've seen this year, well thought out and intelligently presented. An absolute must see for any fan of Science Fiction.

A CGI movie from Japan and it's bloody brilliant! Fantastic animation, fantastic visuals, fantastic story. This is on par with anything Pixar would ever release. So, if you are bored with all these CGI movies that are with animals, go an watch Vexille. This film is well ahead of it's time. There are elements of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, AppleSeed and Dune in this movie, but there is enough going on to keep you interested. If you are a Manga or Anime fan, then this movie is right up your alley. The soundtrack is extremely well done; it was scored and mixed by Paul Oakenfold.
