Johnny Mnemonic (1995)

In a dystopian 2021, Johnny is a data trafficker who has an implant that allows him to securely store data too sensitive for regular computer networks. On one delivery run, he accepts a package that not only exceeds the implant's safety limits—and will kill him if the data is not removed in time—but also contains information far more important and valuable than he had ever imagined. On a race against time, he must avoid the assassins sent to kill him and remove the data before it, too, ends his life.

No idea why everybody hates. I reckon it's pretty good. Love Keanu's rant near the end about all the things he "wants" that, essentially, is a checklist for the modern day male executive life. Henry Rollins kicks ass in this film, too. Watch out for his very angry rant on "information f**king overload". Great.

Best cast since Freejack, and a Dolphin to boot!

Maybe actors could play better, but still the scenario is great. Worth seeing, worth remembering.

Ignore the critics who think Johnny Mnemonic is just a light entertainment piece. This is a classic that serious fans of science fiction and film should watch. It explores the relationship between humankind and technology. By extrapolating how technology will change our lives in the not so distant future, it contrasts how our drive to satiate our basic human desires may come at destruction of what makes us human. It was great when it first came out, and thirteen years later its still both entertaining and prophetic.
