Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970)

Valerie, a Czechoslovakian teenager living with her grandmother, is blossoming into womanhood, but that transformation proves secondary to the effects she experiences when she puts on a pair of magic earrings. Now seeing the world around her in a different light, Valerie must endure her sexual awakening while attempting to discern reality from fantasy as she encounters lecherous priest Gracian, a vampire-like stranger and otherworldly carnival folk.

i liked it, but i thought i would love it. some bits and immaginery are really really good in it, but as a whole i'm not 100% convinced. don't get me wrong, it's not that i didn't like it, it's just that my expectations were way too high. maybe the villagers' flute playing and dancing is to blame... but i love the cloaked man, and the fairytale-like story with the earrings, and the grannie, and... and... lots of 'bits' in it.

Pubescent girls feeling each other up in country streams, possible brother-sister incest, the undead and a gorgeous soundtrack (which was recently released for the first time ever). Czechoslovakian craziness if I ever saw it.

It should be called Valerie and her week of freudian horrors and it's all about growing up, becoming a woman and discovering the forbidden love. Afascinating visual gem from the 70's.

A very odd film. I liked it, I liked the fact that I didn't get the overall point to the storyline. I am glad that I have seen it, and will do again in future to try and attempt to figure it out ='D Only bad thing is the "father/priest/vampire" I really don't like facepaints...but other than that it was interesting ^_^
