Not a death-penalty polemic at all; rather an effective thriller and character-driven drama. Eastwood reprises the Dirty Harry-esque character, this time as a washed up journalist who also happens to be quite a jerk.

It takes some time to get used to Clint, and I'm not sure I've got there yet. Some conversations are very embarrassing, but at the same time it's nice to see Clint take his daughter to speed-zoo. Hmm... or am I just a bit drunk?

This was good, though a tad contrived. Clint delivering an unintentionally humorous line about potato chips in this film is a personal highlight.
