Following some trauma in her past that has since been repressed, a young woman is trying to recover her memories with the help of a psychiatrist. During her hypnosis sessions, she repeats the name "Tomie" but is unable to recall where she knows it from. Meanwhile, a police detective is investigating a string of brutal murders, where he also runs across the name "Tomie." How are the two connected?

In a nutshell-A girls severed head that regenerates and posses demonic powers to induce lust causing jealousy and chaos resulting in her repeated decapitation. I LOVE IT! They made like 4 sequels to this and they are very entertaining. If you like weird watch Tomie!

An excellent idea is given a beautifully surreal tone. Tomie is a sort of demon that starts life as a head. The head is cared and fed for before becoming a full human again. The film can become rather confusing at times, as it jumps between Tomie's resurrection and Tsukiko trying to recall her repressed memories. The film takes on lust as it's major theme, and shows the pointless and destructive nature it can awaken in people. It also manages to have a sly sense of humour. The music was the most memorable part for me, the songs sounded familiar but also came across as warped and eerie. Bizarre and very dream like, this is an effective spooky tale (it's not exactly a horror), which manages to overcome most of it's budgets constraints.

As delicious as it is bizarre, Tomie expresses its own kind of charm in its slow-building, off-the-wall plot and colourful assortment of characters. Definitely a must-see for Asian horror fans, and a recommendation for everyone else.

Wow... this movie wasn't even "okay" lol. Like it wasn't confusing BUT it was kinda boring and not interesting. By far one of the dumbest movies I've seen from asian horror cinema. What kills me the most is its not the storyline that sucks (ANY plot is plausible in a horror movie) but its just the movie itself. Compared to other asian horror flicks (like Bloody Reunion, The Whispering Corridors series.... hell even The Doll Master lol) this just sucks!
