The best film of the year in my opinion A subtle (some would say typically Japanese) drama, quietly observes the everyday lives of a seemingly normal Japanese family. To me, still proving that no one pulls off minimalism in drama quite like the Japanese.

No, it doesn't turn into another horror film or a murder-suicide. It simply shows how lives torn apart by financial emergencies can be revealed as being damaged all along.
