Based on a real-life story, this drama focuses on a small group of Allied soldiers in Burma who are held captive by the Japanese. Capt. Ernest Gordon, Lt. Jim Reardon and Maj. Ian Campbell are among the military officers kept imprisoned and routinely beaten and deprived of food. While Campbell wants to rebel and attempt an escape, Gordon tries to take a more stoic approach, an attitude that proves to be surprisingly resonant.

This is a brutal film. The violence is unerving and graphic, but that's what happened in the POW camps. Much better than Bridge on the River Kwai.

WOW! this movie has remained my favortie movie for a long time, which is hard. When making a mvie u want the audience to FEEL somthing so they remember it. This movie made me feel really sad but had a very uplifting message. brillintly done, great narriration, great acting and great philophy on life. n i dont even beieve in god!! serously if u havnt seen this movie, go get in your car, drive 5 miles to the nearest video store, go inside, rent it, drive back to ur house, put it in your dvd player and WATCH IT!!!!
