My favourite film of all times. It is about love and about putting the one you love above all things. I cry every time I watch it.

Breaking the Waves just broke my heart (for the second time). An incredibly moving account of religious and romantic devotion, Emily Watson is brilliant as "simple" villager Bess, who is never patronised by von Trier; instead, he encourages us to identify with her increasingly drastic actions in the name of love for God and her husband. A superficially bleak film that is ultimately mesmerising, heart-breaking and hopeful.

Lars Von Trier at his very best. One of the ten most memorable films of the 90's and Emily Watson gives one of the greatest performances in the history of the cinema. This is eye opening, edge of your seat tragedy. A film that will forever stand the test of time.
