Well deserved Cannes Director award - it's beautiful to look at. Great simple storyline with just a handful of very real characters. Let's just hope the U.S don't spoil it with the inevitable remake

The plot may be simple enough but real artistry is shown by what the director does not show and by the actors' ability to express their emotions with limited dialogue.

Powerful stuff. The characters are so thick, multi-layered and real its as if I could smell their breath on screen. These characters just wouldn't have worked without the powerhouse performances from all the leads. The director does a wonderful job using empty spaces to resonate emotion, thanks to the spectacular cinematography-- which is truly taking the next step in digital cinema. This is a rare, and often grim tale about corruption, crime and guilt.
