The film has extraordinary beauty. Indeed, the visuals by cinematographer Gokhan Tiryaki are so awesome that the characters almost seem belittled, which may be Ceylan's purpose.

A sprawling masterpiece of a domestic drama. The performances are rich and so is Ceylan's beautiful imagery. Most astounding though is how he holds information from the audience for as long as possible before slowly revealing it to great effect. The pacing is perfect.

My Favourite. The casts done well. Good directing and amazing cinematography. I love the frames and pictures. Haven't seen so many Turkish films, but I'm sure it was the best one for me.

A classic arthouse fare (slow, very slow), but a very competent one. Beautifuly directed, nicely structured and written. Not great, but very interesting to watch.

Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan's aching film is driven by complex, powerful performances. Too many angsty silences deflate the tension, but it's gripping while it lasts.
