A brilliant start to set up a dynamic plot fails to deliver from here on in. If you're going to make a slow film with alternative camera work (hand held et.) it's gotta be DAMN good. SEEN AT THE MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2008.

Hacia tiempo no veia una pelicula 10 total. Que joyonon de peli. Flor de filme!!! Una historia bastante original, con un manejo de la trama pasado de maravilloso, una fotografia del putas, una ausencia parcial de dialogos tan necesaria que permite que la pelicula por si misma sea narrada a punta de imagen, unas actuaciones deslumbrantes, etc. Tres Monos tiene que ver con los problemas de comunicacion que padecen las familias cuando las relaciones se estancan, se pierden. AÃ±adiendo tambien si existe un factor que altere esa comunicacion y esa relacion. Una mujer que es lanzada al abismo de la infidelidad, un hombre que padece de una obsesion que no lo deja vivir en paz, un muchacho que pasa por una crisis existencial terrible, otro hombre derrotado en su profesion, estos y algunos otros aspectos hacen de esta pelicula una excelente pieza. Joya.

This is an elegant exercise with four characters trapped by class, guilt and greed, beautifully photographed, with minimum dialogue, no background music. Satyajeet Ray once said a great director is one who is able to use silence to communicate. If that is the test, then Three Monkeys should catapult Nuri Bilge Ceylan to the list of a grade directors of our times.
