This docu-drama aired on the BBC in 1984 during the Reagan administration. Former President Reagan watched the film and was quoted as saying, "Threads is about as close to nuclear destruction as the world will ever come -- I hope and pray." This vivid, realistic take on what could transpire between two superpowers is unbelievably smart and will take your breath away. Be prepared because this is not a film you can watch again.

Truly harrowing, as effective now as when I first saw it in 1984. This should be required viewing for all school kids and politicians. Fantastic, but don't expect to enjoy it.

Grim, unsentimental portrait of the months preceding and 13 years following a nuclear war. Unlike any other end of the world film, this one doesn't present adventure and action, but pathetic decay. Made 25 years ago, the production isn't as flashy as something that would be made now and I think that is to its advantage - it brings it down to earth amidst some jarring scenes with - for lack of a better word - beautiful production design and camera work. Highly recommended, but depressing as hell.

I'd say its one of the most powerful and gripping films of all time. Its filmed documentary style and not given a hollywood war-time story or larger than life characters. I think its the down-to-earth story and low budget 'fly on the wall' style filming about how life would change that brings the horror home. Its not a horror film in the modern sense but it is very moving. This film will stay with you for years after watching.

An awesome film - could happen tomorrow! Give it your undivided attention and IT WILL scare the hell out of you like no other film.... You'll watch it, not sleep all night and forever watch the news every night expecting the worse. A truly, truly awesome film that shows just how fragile your 9 to 5, 2.4 Children, Childhod Sweetheart and a Mortgage really is. EVERY child in every school should watch it just to show how idiotic war is. P.S the soldier that kills the survivors for a bag of crisps is also "Kenny" from Pheonix Nights!!!
