If you thought surviving a nuclear war was all about building a shelter and sitting it out, you are in for a big shock. Disturbing, informative and thought provoking..

they say it's grim up north. well, this is very grim indeed. a possibility that is only too real, and that's what truly scary about this film.

Grim, unsentimental portrait of the months preceding and 13 years following a nuclear war. Unlike any other end of the world film, this one doesn't present adventure and action, but pathetic decay. Made 25 years ago, the production isn't as flashy as something that would be made now and I think that is to its advantage - it brings it down to earth amidst some jarring scenes with - for lack of a better word - beautiful production design and camera work. Highly recommended, but depressing as hell.

If you see this, you'll curl into a fetal position in the corner of your room and cry for days. But you should really, really see it anyway.

This disturbing yet riveting film immerses you in the desolation and total hopelessness of a world shattered by nuclear war. It is genuinely thought provoking and terrifying, to the point where i'd prefer to have perished than try and struggle on in a Dark Ages existence. This is essential viewing.
