It's impossible not to appreciate the remarkable performances (both Harris and Roberts were nominated for Oscars) or the realistic rugby scenes that earned Harris a broken leg.

Wow, great movie. The tension and chemistry between Harris and Roberts is incredible. It's an emotional rollercoaster, and the rugby scenes are incredibly filmed. One of the best sports films ever, and a classic from one of my favorite directors.

Lindsay Anderson's first feature is a poetic, raw portrait of an utterly destructive relationship.Beautifully shot(the rugby sequences are bone crunchingly realistic)and with two central performances of almost miraculous intensity(Harris is great,but Roberts is mesmerising),this is the kind of film we just don't make in this country anymore.With the exception of Shane Meadows,there's still no one to touch Anderson's genius.

one of those "kitchen sink realism" films and the first feature film from lindsay anderson. boasting 2 excellent lead performances from richard harris and rachel roberts, the film captures the provincial life and time.

A brutal, gritty, destructive story that Im sure paved the way for Raging Bull. Harris is amazing.
