Ruthless silver miner, turned oil prospector, Daniel Plainview, moves to oil-rich California. With an amazing performance by Daniel Day-Lewis and technical and narrative excellence, this film soars as an instant, artistic classic.

There Will Be Blood offers an edgy cinematic experience with powerhouse performances from Paul Dano and especially Daniel Day-Lewis. While the plot seems simplistic, it touches greed, capitalism, deception, religion and, of course, blood, which all play important roles and reinforcing the characters played by Dano and Day-Lewis. Movies with sporadically engaging narrative structure can be hard to get into, but Paul T. Anderson does it right with outstanding direction, incorporating stunning cinematography and a pulse-pounding soundtrack. This may as well be Anderson's best movie. Bloody (pun intended) well-done.

Some call this film boring and arbitrary, but I think this slow-burning yet thrilling epic is a masterpiece. The film features DDL's best performance, in my opinion, complex characters, and beautiful cinematography. Some may find Daniel Plainview's actions and choices of words confusing, but you just have to get inside his head, and Paul Thomas Anderson does a very good job at letting the audience do just that. Not to mention a wonderful score by Jonny Greenwood.

Daniel Day-Lewis's performance is so natural, so realistic & so compelling, that makes it hard to believe he's just acting.
