quaint to the point of incoherence and inconsequence

Hollywood depiction of juvenile delinquency in the tradition of Blackboard Jungle and West Side Story. Dramatic and entertaining but decidedly unrealistic.

A clunky and cliched take on urban juvenile delinquency, Burt Lancaster gives an earnest enough performance in the central role as an ambitious assistant DA, but the film struggles to get out of second gear and doesn't feel very authentic.
