Truly the strangest musical of all time... ok so maybe Forbidden Zone is stranger... maybe... anybody who likes 'different' cinema should definitely check this one out

This is Tsai's most hilarious work, going beyond his usual brand of deadpan comedy. However, this also turns out to be the one drawback. Tsai goes a little bit too far over the top and at times the goofiness feels forced. It's a shame, because in a lot of ways this could considered his masterpiece. It's the culmination of all his work up to that point, the water/watermelon metaphors are fascinating, the musical sequences are beautiful, and the climax is shocking without being gratuitous.

in the weird world straddling art and porno, Wayward Cloud uses mermen and watermelons.

Disappointing. Is this the summum of Arthouse? I'd hope not. Cliche from beginning to end: hardboiled contrasts in silence and poppy shmuck musicalism, 80% of the spaces are places of transition (corridors, stairways, ...), blend in of antagonistic film genres, still shots, urban worship, ... , name it, it's all there. Luckily there's quite good acting, especially on the girl's part, and often the stills are exquisite visual compositions. There's more and better outside. This is just a kitch attempt within the Arthouse genre, nothing more.

This is a very special movie that I saw at the Film festival in Trondheim. It has no lines and no music, it's almost silent, exept from the hysterical musical scenes which suddenly pops up. Even if the main characters doesn't speak, it's not dificult to understand the story and the frustrated feelings of the main characters. The story is about a girl that lives alone and works at a museum, it's summer and drought, so the whole city lives on the water from melons. She falls in love with a boy, that works in the porn industry. It's a terrible workplace and makes it hard for him to have a girlfriend. Some of the scenes are awful, but part from that it a beautifull movie.
