A very crude film featuring poor makeup choices (How could Jekyll's beard disappear and reappear so quickly), an unconvincing lead performance from Paul Massie, and a narrative as schizophrenic as the title character.

Typical Hammer slant of an old horror tale; playful and out of the ordinary. While the budget constraints are quite evident throughout the production (really only like 2 or 3 sets, no real sfx to speak of other than the mysteriously dissapearing beard of Dr. Jekyll), there was an unmistakable charm that held my interest right through to the inevitable end. Check it out if you are interested and you will see one of the worst beards of all time.

Terence Fisher fait une relecture nietzchéenne du roman de Stevenson. L'interprétation de Paul Massie est magnifique. Un des plus ambitieux et réussis films du réalisateur.

A great spin off to the classic short story, of course there's a few plot holes in the film, but the acting is superb, from Paul Massie's take on the famous character, to the Christopher Lee, as the sponging adulterer. Apart from a few niggles, the story is excellent on whole
