As a writer named Mike struggles to shepherd his semi-autobiographical sitcom into development, his vision is slowly eroded by a domineering network executive named Lenny who favors trashy reality programming. The irony, of course, is that every crass suggestion Lenny makes improves the show's response from test audiences and brings the show a step closer to getting on the air.

Brilliantly uncomfortable and funny look at the soul-crushing world of television production.

This movie is fantastic. Not as good as Zero Effect, but you should still see it. It's only funny about half the time, but the other half, it's relevant, and it shows how, no matter what your job is, you are always affected by it, no matter where you are.

Jake Kasdan is one of the luckiest sons of bitches in Hollywood. Your dad wrote and directed some of the biggest and most entertaining films in our generation's history. His dad shaped the "studio system" that we have in place now- which is why it's somewhat ironic that his outlook is so grim on how things are run in this town (and for the record, it's spot on). Sigourney Weaver's studio executive is literally cut from the same cloth as "real-life" execs, with the same notes, the same opinions, and the same tenancy to show her 10 year old daughter everything as her springboard. Sharp and cynical, I loved this movie and really feel for poor David Duchovny's character.
