The Story of Vernon and Irene Castle (1939)

In 1911, minor stage comic, Vernon Castle meets the stage-struck Irene Foote. A few misadventures later, they marry and then abandon comedy to attempt a dancing career together. While they're performing in Paris, an agent sees them rehearse and starts them on their brilliant career as the world's foremost ballroom dancers. However, at the height of their fame, World War I begins.

If joy and liberation exudes from the best Astaire-Rogers films, this is defined by restriction.

This was a more dramatic film for Fred and Ginger, and yet it was still fun to watch! The songs in this film were fun, and the dancing was thoroughly enjoyable. Most people seem to think this was one of the worse Astaire/ Rogers film; however, I personally disagree and think it is one of their better films!

Probably the duo's most ambitious effort, playing the real-life ballroom dancers. That it ends with a shot of Astaire and Rogers dancing into the distance is a fitting end, the duo wouldn't do another movie until Barkleys of Broadway.

I really like watching Fred and Ginger dance... they didn't dance so much in this one. It was an unusual change from they're typical movies, I think it was good in a way.
