Dark, satisfying and funny. Downey Jr stars in a underrated classic which deals with mental torments and how we sometimes write about ourselves without knowing we are. Gibson and Wright give strong co-performances.

Yes, it is a poor musical if you assume it's just a musical. It's not; it's an outstading movie that goes inside the character's mind. It's bizarre, strange and weird. It's very, very good!

The brilliance that is Robert Downey shines through in the hidden gem. I didn't know this was a remake. Off to find the original. Very intense movie with great performances by everyone on screen. Don't pass this one over.

Tiresome and uninvolving adaptation by Dennis Potter of his original 1986 TV series. A twitchy and often inaudible Downey Jr lies in a hospital bed, deliriously imagining ghosts from his past as noir characters in a murder mystery. Only when he starts psychiatric sessions with Mel Gibson in a bald skullcap does his psoriasis start to heal and the pieces fall into place. But you'll have long since ceased caring. A vanity project par excellence.
