It's a complex feeling after watching this movie. Even more when complicated when such a heavy and serious movie incorporated with Tony's witty and semi-funny acts. I really want to like this movie a lot, but really... putting the "tokyo raiders" charisma to this show proves it doesn't work. What's more is when the story is pretty predictable to some point it doesn't make sense. But nevertheless, the setting for the movie is nicely captured... and comes with accompanying music, and of course credit given to those who did a perfect job developing tony's character. Conclusion, worth watching on a boring weekend when you have nothing to watch.

Felix Chong and Alex Mak manage to conjure up a good dramatic thriller with The Silent War.It takes nearly 2 hours to get through the story and it does feel as long as that. That isn't to say that the film is a complete bore, because it isn't. Sure, the pacing is a bit on the slow side and there isn't much in the way of tensile moments, but the plot elements and story concept are enough to hold interest.Although taking place during a war and revolving around spies, the action and violence is slim to none. This isn't surprising considering the characters, and even the title. Both Tony Leung and Zhou Xun are the biggest praises of this film. Watching a blind Tony Leung is intriguing and Zhou Xun delivers a sharp performance for her character as well.At the end of the day, the cast and setting for The Silent War is engaging enough to make it a worthwhile viewing.

The story of the Chinese Secret Service (701) at the time of the people's revolution against the Nationalists. More action than Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy but certainly no Bourne Identity.

has lots of potential from the get-go but midway thanks to direction or lack of storytelling, story was all over the place and doesn't make sense especially towards the guess-who mystery. Tony Leung is in his usual acting style. The ending could have been very different and shocking, every possible angle was going thru my head especially during the last funeral sequence, but it was the usual ho-hum given.
