The Salvation is a short and entertaining film with an impressive production design and well directed action sequences. Unfortunately, it's story fails to go anywhere very interesting or original, and the characters are essentially walking cliches, even if the films cast redeems this somewhat. Overall, it's solid and watchable but undoubtedly imperfect.

The Salvation is visually beautiful, morally down and dirty, and simplistic. But it’s marked by two haunted, quiet performances from stars Mads Mikkelsen and Eva Green, who make this otherwise predictable slog worthwhile.

The Salvation is just another western. That's it. It looks good, it's well acted, it has all the clichés in the book,, it doesn't risk anything and looses a lot of points because of that. Maybe in the 80s this could've had some impact but now? We're already used to this gritty take on the genre far too often. A good effort since everything is polished enough but needs that extra bonus beat.

This is the best Western genre movie I've seen to date.

Kristian Levring offers a brutally beautiful take on the Western in The Salvation, a film reminiscent of a song that sounds familiar but offers its own pleasures.
