Super film: B&W really works marvellously here (prefer it to the 1984 remake with Murray; and Tyrone carries an intensity)

the razors edge is an unlikely film. when you read the book it does not feel cinematic. its saving grace is that it is human. it has critiques of upper class society galore. anne baxters performance was oscar worthy and really the only one worth noting. but i can attribute my interest in this story to somerset-maugham. his world-conscious view is what makes this worthwhile. the character of larry is something to aspire to. and its not as if he does everything right. he is a man with goodness but still must deal with the fallen world. when he shuns tierneys character at the end for the last time there are few more triumphant endings in all of storytelling.

Hard evidence that Arthur Miller was one of cinema's best cinematographers, ONLY when pushed by a director with vision; some of the blocking in this film should be STUDIED, sweet babies! Anne Baxter comes outta nowhere with a heartbreaking performance, mostly because of its innate duality.

A very engaging offering from the golden era of black and white Hollywood films. Larry Darrell is a rather special character and it's portrayed with effective charisma and earnestness by Tyrone Power. Though it's Anne Baxter's inebriated tragedy-struck avatar that notched an Oscar, I was completely awe-struck by Gene Tierney's bewitching shades of grey.

An acceptably faithful and quite good adaptation of a book which is hard to bring to the screen as it encompasses some very crucial questions and indeed gives a good summary of Hinduism. Clifton Webb is perfect in his portrayal of the socialite Elliott and the fire in Tyrone Power's eyes matches that portrayed in the book. Isabel is also well depicted by Gene Tierney. People always say the book is better, well in this case it is, it has to be for this kind of story, but see the film and read the book - one informs the other
